04.26.08 | New Mexico Symphony Orchestra 2008-09 Season The New Mexico Symphony Orchestra has announced its Classics and Pops seasons for 2008-09!
The NMSO will collaborate with a long list of fine artists including James Shields, clarinet, Arnaldo Cohen, piano, The Figueroa Family, Elena Urioste, violin, Simon Boyar, percussion, the New Mexico Ballet and Krzysztof Zimowski, NMSO Concertmaster.
The exhilarating season will also feature works such as Stravinsky's Firebird Suite, Rachmaninoff'sSymphonic Dances, Copland's Symphony No. 3 and Mahler's Symphony No.2, Resurrection. Included in the Classics season will be a Beethoven Festival, where the NMSO will present masterworks such as Missa Solemnis, Symphony No. 5, Symphony No. 8, Piano Concerto No.5, Emperor and the Concerto for Violin, Cello and Piano featuring the famous Figueroa Family!

04.26.08 | Marchiando to perform with La Crosse Concert Band John will once again return to his hometown in Wisconsin to appear as a soloist with the La Crosse Concert Band. Marchiando will join his former High School Band Director, Alex Vaver in a concert to feature the trumpet solo works Dramatic Essay by Clifton Williams and La Virgen de la Macarena, made famous by the legendary trumpeter Rafael Méndez.
The concert will take place on June 25 at 7:30pm at the Viterbo University Performing Arts Center.

John Marchiando will perform with the world-renown Summit Brass at the 2008 Rafael Méndez Brass Institute in Denver, CO. The world class brass ensemble serves as the faculty for the week long seminar hosted at the Lamont School of Music at the University of Denver. John will join the stellar trumpet section of David Hickman, Allan Dean, Ronald Romm, Alan Hood and F. Joseph Docksey.
Honoring the legendary trumpet virtuoso, Rafael Méndez (1906-1981), the Rafael Méndez Brass Institute is the world's leading performance and career development seminar for brass musicians and educators age 18* and older. 12.27.07 | Marchiando to perform Bach's Brandenburg 2 John will perform the difficult Second Brandenburg Concerto by J.S. Bach with the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra in March of 2008. The performances will be part of the annual tour with the NMSO through western New Mexico.
Joining John as soloists will be NMSO Concertmaster Krzysztof Zimowski, Principal Flutist Valerie Potter and Associate Principal Oboist Melissa Pena.

GRADUATE BRASS ASSISTANTSHIPS: TRUMPET
The University of New Mexico Department of Music is seeking excellent performers wishing to study for a master's degree in Trumpet Performance. Assistantship includes performing with the University of New Mexico Graduate Brass Quintet, the UNM Wind Symphony, and/or the UNM Symphony Orchestra as needed. Additional duties may include assisting the faculty with brass fundamentals classes for music education majors, coaching undergraduate brass chamber music ensembles, teaching applied lessons for non-majors, and assisting the faculty with undergraduate recruitment. Total workload is 10 hours per week. This is a two-year (four-semester) half assistantship (contract is by semester, but renewable if work is satisfactory). Pay is approximately $5800 per academic year and includes a waiver of tuition (exclusive of special course fees) for up to 6 credits per semester (fall and spring). Any additional hours can be taken at the in-state tuition rate.
The UNM Graduate Brass Quintet receives regular coaching with members of the UNM Brass Faculty and principal brass players in the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra and assists the Department of Music in the recruitment of undergraduate students through performances and clinics in area high schools.
The UNM Department of Music has 54 fulltime and part-time faculty members, and approximately 300 undergraduate and graduate majors. The music facility boasts a world class 300-seat recital hall and is adjacent to Popejoy Hall, a 2000-seat auditorium that hosts performances by the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra, professional touring companies and UNM musical ensembles. The university is located in the heart of Albuquerque, a metropolitan center of approximately 600,000 residents and is nestled next to the Sandia Mountains. With an average of 340 days of sunshine annually, the climate accommodates a wide range of outdoor activities. The beauty of its physical surroundings, coupled with New Mexico's rich cultural and artistic heritage, makes studying at UNM a rewarding and enjoyable experience.

08.22.07 | New Mexico Symphony Associate Principal opening. The New Mexico Symphony will hold an audition for the position of Associate Principal/Third Trumpet on September 17, 2007. This is a one-year appointment for the 2007-08 season. Repetoire for the season includes Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra, Walton's Balshazzar's Feast, Ravel's Daphis and Chloe, Shotakovich's Symphony No. 5 and more.

05.24.07 | John to appear with the LSO - UPDATE! John will return to his hometown in Wisconsin to perform the Haydn Trumpet Concerto with the La Crosse Symphony Orchestra. Concert dates are Friday October 19 and Saturday October 20. The program will also feature Wagner's famous Overture to Rienzi, music from Howard Shore's score to The Lord of the Rings and Resphigi's powerful Pines of Rome.
Marchiando will also perform a recital as part of the LSO visiting guest recital program on Wednesday, October 17. This concert is hosted by an LSO patron and attendance is extremely limited.

05.11.07 | Marchiando to produce new Summit Brass recording. John and Josh Whitehouse will Co-produce the upcoming live concert recording of the Summit Brass to be released on Summit Records. This recording will mark the second such project that Marchiando has collaborated on with the world-renown brass ensemble, having produced the 2004 release, Summit Brass Live.
The recording will take place in July 2007 at the Rafael Mendez Brass Institute, hosted by the University of Denver.

04.30.07 | Marchiando to play Principal Trumpet with NMSO and SFS for 2007-08 season! John will again perform as Acting Principal Trumpet with the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra for the upcoming 2007-08 concert season. Among the season highlights are Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra, Sibelius' Second Symphony, Shostakovich Fifth Symphony and Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 2.
Marchiando will also reprise his role as Guest Principal Trumpet with the Santa Fe Symphony, whose concert season includes masterworks such as Orff's Carmina Burana and Mahler's Symphony No. 1.
